Abstract

A record material feed apparatus 12 is disclosed for use with a printing machine of the type including a platen rotatable about its axis, at least one follower roller, a lever 32 capable of manual movement between first and second positions, and an assembly coupled between the lever and the follower roller for maintaining the follower roller in engagement with the platen when the lever is in its first position and for maintaining the roller spaced a predetermined distance from the platen when the lever is in its second position. The feed apparatus 12 includes a sprocket drive assembly that is capable of engaging and, when enabled, feeding a marginally punched record material that is loaded thereon. The drive assembly includes a pair of gears 66 and 70 in a housing 68, a shaft 72 connected between opposing walls 74 and 80 of housing 68 and 82, and a pair of sprocket drives (not shown) . A guide rack 118 is coupled to the drive assembly and is capable of manual movement between a first position in which a marginally record material may be loaded onto said drive assembly and a second position in which a marginally punched record material fed by the drive assembly may be guided along the guide rack. An interlock member 122 is coupled to the guide rack 118 and is capable of engaging the lever 32 when the feed apparatus 12 is mounted to the printing machine for automatically moving the lever from its first position to its second position when the guide rack is manually moved from its first position to its second position, and for automatically returning the lever 32 to its first position when the rack 118 is manually returned to its first position.
