Abstract

An improved printing apparatus and an improved printing process are provided which effects better prints than hereto-fore obtained by direct printing and prints of customary quality by offset printings The process comprises transfer-ring an inked image from an imaged surface to a receiver sheet by pressure applied between soft rolls having a Shore A durometer between about 40 and about 80 adapted to provide a printing nip of greater than 1/4 inch and preferably between 1/2 and 1 inch. The soft rolls comprise a rigid core with a resilient surface layer of between about 0.060 and about 0.25 inch thick.
