Abstract

An improvement in the appearance of displays can be achieved by altering the shape normally associated with prior art, straight ribbon electrodes vacuum evaporated upon substrates, A portion of said prior art, straight ribbon electrodes is schematically illustrated in Figure 2, In X-Ymatrix addres-sing schemes, two such electroded substrates are used in an electro-opticdisplay wherein an electro-opticmedium such as, for example, a liquid crystalline material is sandwiched between the electroded substrates, One of the electroded substrates is oriented orthogonally to the other electroded substrate. The resulting displayed characters have the familiar -stair steppedu effect, The stair-steppedeffect is schematically illustrated in Figure 4 for the character -
