Abstract

The transfer of images from a conductive web to a paper substrate is performed using a corotron device located adja-cent to the surface of the transfer sheet opposite to the surface to which the image is to be transferred. The creation of the field for transfer at this point eliminates half=-tone patterns in the transferred image which is characteristic of other corotron transfer systems. The method is particularly useful to transfer of images produced by the photoelectro-phoretic imaging process from a conductive web on which the image is produced to a paper transfer sheet.

In the drawing, conductive web 1 carries image 3 to a transfer
station 5 comprising grounded roller 2. Transfer paper 7
contacts conductive web 1 where transfer takes place upon
charging of transfer paper 7 by corotron 9. Image 3, residing
on transfer paper 7, exits from transfer station 5 to a fixing
station not shown.
