Disclosed is a system for obtaining a negative image in a
photoelectrophoretic process by subjecting the ink layer to
precharging and a dark roll for dark splitting and then
imaging in order to produce a negative of the image on the
blocking web,

When photoelectrophoretic inks are subjected to a corotron for
precharging and a dark roll for dark splitting, such inks can
be brought into the imaging zone; and the negative image
produced on the blocking web differs from the conventional
blocking web images in that these negative images are excep~
tionally clean and free from the splitting normally seen on
all web imaging devices, As a clean negative is produced, a
positive image can be produced on the blocking electrode by
using negative input to the machine, which can be used as a
final print. High quality negative~to~positive imaging
systems are thus envisioned using the process described.
