A heater 30, disposed in the loop formed by the belt, serves to elevate the temperature of the belt suf-ficiently to tackify the toner images to effect the fusing process. In order to minimize paper wrinkle, the belt has a tapered configuration whereby the portions of the belt near the edges are thicker than the center-most part of the belt.
