Abstract

To prevent a passerby from reading confidential material being typed, a typewriter 10 has a security device 12 mounted there-to. The device 12 surrounds the rear portion of the type-writer and is held in place by the weight of the typewriter, or alternatively it may be screwed to the typewriter. The device 12 has a shield 14 which is hinged to a base portion 16 of the device. When the shield 14 is in its "down" position, it prevents a passerby from reading what is being typed. To proofread, load or unload paper, or when not typing con-fidential material, the shield is moved to its "up" position.
