Abstract

A method of forming a negative image on a surface, comprising the following sequence of steps: (a) forming a coating of sulphur on the surface, (b) exposing the coating to an image-wise pattern of electromagnetic radiation, (C) treating the coating, for example by the application of a hydro-carbon solvent for sulphur, so that unexposed portions of sulphur are removed from the surface, and (d) developing the surface of the remaining sulphur with a dry particulate or liquid material, such as xerographic toner.

The sulphur coating may be applied from a solution of sulphur
in an organic solvent. The radiation preferably includes
ultra=~violet radiation.
