Abstract

This disclosure relates to a heat and pressure roll fuser for high-speed operation which is designed to minimize non-uniform stresses put on the paper and to eliminate paper wrinkle, To this end, the roll fuser comprises a relatively hard heated fuser roll 10 and a soft non-heated pressure roll 12 which cooperate to form a nip 14 through which the substrate 16 passes such that toner images 18 contact the heated fuser roll, Drive means 20 are provided for driving the pressure roll 12 and the pressure roll has, as shown in Figure 2, a tapered shape, For an operational spread of 20 inches per second (7200 copies per minute), a nominal taper from the center of the pressure roll to its ends is 0,015 inch for a roll having a 3-inch outside diameter and a l5-inch length, Rubber thickness for the above dimensions is 0,75 inch,

This disclosure relates to a heat and pressure roll fuser for
high-speed operation which is designed to minimize non-uniform
stresses put on the paper and to eliminate paper wrinkle, To
this end, the roll fuser comprises a relatively hard heated
fuser roll 10 and a soft non~-heated pressure roll 12 which
cooperate to form a nip 14 through which the substrate 16
passes such that toner images 18 contact the heated fuser
roll, Drive means 20 are provided for driving the pressure
roll 12 and the pressure roll has, as shown in Figure 2, a
tapered shape, For an operational spread of 20 inches per
second (7200 copies per minute), a nominal taper from the
center of the pressure roll to its ends is 0,015 inch for a
roll having a 3-inch outside diameter and a l5-~inch length,
Rubber thickness for the above dimensions is 0,75 inch,
