Abstract

Clip adjustment during balance correction by pushing on the outside of the clip tab. The advantages of this invention are as the followings: a. such operation tends to make the clips better conform to the retaining grooves of the balance clip holder, and therefore the clips are less likely to move out of the retaining grooves. b. Since the clips are less likely to move out of the retaining grooves during adjustment, this invention allows shallower retaining groove depth in both radial and z directions, which makes the motor design more space efficient.

Figure 1 shows the cross-section of the motor with pre-installed balance clips. The clips can be adjusted by the clip adjust tool to the desired position to achieve disk pack balance. At level A to adjust both upper and lower clips, and at level B to adjust the lower clip only.

Figure 2 shows the sketch of clip adjustment operation. The clip adjustment tool pin pushes against the clip tab as shown, and another tool to rotate the motor hub to move the clip to the desired angular

position relative to the motor hub. Such operation tends to make the clips better conform to the retaining grooves of the balance clip holder, and therefore the clips are less likely to move out of the retaining grooves. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------
