A compact, hand held, plain paper copier which is dimensioned to be laid over a

document to be copied. The copier is manually operated by a slider mounted on the top thereof and slides along the length of the machine. The slider operates via a drive belt 12, the photoconductor belt 1, copy paper fed from the cartridge 2, and the optics carriage 3, which has a strip lens with strip illuminators. Charging is by

a fixed scorotron 4 and development by liquid toner supplied in a disposable developer cartridge 5. The cartridge includes a liquid reservoir formed by an

absorbent pad 6 which feeds an applicator 7 and also filters toner removed from the belt 1 by cleaning blade 8. The image is transferred by roll 9 and the copies exit through slit 10.

Four separate traverses of the control slider (two in each direction) provide the sequence of charge, scan, develop and feed paper, The machine is placed over the

copier with the platen 11 overlying the document to be copied and the slider moved from right to left to put lens carriage 3 in its start~of-scan position and to drive the photoreceptor belt passed the scorotron 4 to charge its lower run. Returning the slide to the left with the paper feed connected, effects transfer and paper

ejection. Residual toner is cleaned from the belt by blade 8 and returned to the reservoir for reuse.
