Abstract

This disclosure relates to fuser apparatus for fixing toner images to copy sub-strates wherein a heated fuser roll 10 and a backup or pressure roll 12 form a nip 14 through which copy substrates pass with the toner images contacting the heated fuser roll. A radiant energy source 16 is supported internally of the fuser roll 10.

This disclosure relates to fuser apparatus for fixing toner images to copy sub~ strates wherein a heated fuser roll 10 and a backup or pressure roll 12 form a nip 14 through which copy substrates pass with the toner images contacting the heated fuser roll. A radiant energy source 16 is supported internally of the fuser roll 10. Each of the rolls has a metallic core, the surface of which is irregular, thereby providing peaks 18 and valleys 20~ Each roll also has a resilient (i.e., silicone rubber or the like) layer adhered to the core. The resilient layers are provided with peaks 22 and valleys 24, which are complimentary to those of the corresponding core. The rolls are spatially arranged such that the peaks 18 are opposite the valleys 24 and the peaks 22 are opposite the valleys 20. This configuration should promote release of copy substrates from the rolls.
