Abstract

A magnetic hammer guide is used to eliminate friction and wear in a high-speed printer. Magnetic repulsion forces are used to provide hammer alignment and to, in effect, produce air bearings for the hammer. Figure 1 shows the top view of a hammer 1 aligned by guide magnets 2 on the sides. Figure 2 shows an end view of a print hammer 3 suspended between four magnetic guides 4.
