Abstract

A ribbon tensioning device for an impact printer, - a typewriter, in which a wide ribbon is lifted through various vertical positions- As shown in the drawings, a guide 1, an unconstrained roller 2 and a constrained pivotal roller 3 are used in conjunction with each ribbon spool 4- Figures 1 4 show a supply spool with the associated unconstrained 2 and constrained 3 pivotal rollers and the relative movement of each resulting from ribbon lift Figure 1 shows a top view and Figure 3 a side view of the relationship between the spool 4 and pivotal rollers 2, 3 at the high-4iftposition- Figures 2 and 4 show the top view and side view, respectively, of the relationship between the spool 4 and the pivotal rollers 2, 3 when the ribbon 5 is at centers The same rollers-and-spoolrelationship is used at the take-upspool as well, with the unconstrained pivotal roller again being closest to the spooL Figures 5 and 6 snow a typical design for an unconstrained roller 2 and a constrained roller 3, respective1y-
