Abstract

A paddle wheel may be used as a platen transport and registration device for driving a sheet on a platen surface by friction forces between the paddles of the wheel and the paper. The shape of the individual paddles (i.e., canted, spiralled, etc.) may be varied to provide a reliable means for side registration of a sheet. Thus, a paddle may provide forward and lateral motion to a sheet while maintaining the rotation of the paddle wheel parallel to the sheet-sforward motion.
