Abstract

Figure 1 shows a cartridge 10 containing a rotatable print wheel 12 therein. The hub 14 of the wheel has spaced locating slots 16 adapted to receive locating tabs 20 on a print wheel drive hub 18 (Figure 2) attached to the print wheel motor drive shaft (not shown). As shown in Figure 3, the wheel 12 also includes an optical or magnetic sensor tab or strip 22 affixed to a "flag" portion 24 of the wheel. The strip 22 may be detected by an appropriate sensor mounted to the print wheel carriage (not shown),

EASY~CHANGEPRINT WHEEL FOR DAISY PRINTERS (Con t~d)

In view of the above arrangement, the wheel can be loaded on the motor drive hub 18 in any rotational orientation, i.e., with the tabs 20 projecting through any of the slots 16. Home sensing of the print wheel, i.e., rotating the print wheel to a desired starting (home) position, is insured regardless of the rotational orientation of the wheel when mounted since the strip 22 to be sensed is on the wheel itself.
