REVERSE INDEX

A concept is disclosed for providing means for initiating the feeding of the next sheet from an input tray of a cut sheet feeder used in conjunction with an electronic typing system during automatic playback from the magnetic media.

Referring to the figure, after the printing of the first sheet of the document has been completed in the printer and has been deposited into an output tray, a reverse index motion of the platen 11 is initiated by the magnetic media through the printer. Cam 12 is positioned to frictionally engage the surface of the platen 11.

As the platen 11 is reverse indexed, the platen 11 rotates counterclockwise until switch 13 is activated. Switch 13 activates the drive motor to feed the next sheet into the printer. Material 14 is attached to the surface of the cam 12 between the cam 12 and the platen 11 to assure proper frictional engagement of the cam 12 and the platen 11. The cord length of the cam 12 is calculated to provide slippage between the cam 12 and the platen 11 after switch 13 is activated and to also provide slippage between the cam 12 and the platen 11 after the cam 12 strikes stop 15 when the platen ills forward indexed.
