In an electrophotographic printing machine, the toner particles are depleted from the developer mixture as copies are made. It is, therefore, apparent that additional toner particles must be periodically furnished to the developer mixture as the concentration thereof is depleted beneath a predetermined level. In order to measure the concentration of toner particles within the developer mixture, a drum made from a transparent, electro~-conductive material, such as NESA glass, is disposed in the developer mixture. A light source is positioned interiorly of the drum. The drum is electrically biased to attract toner particles to the exterior surface thereof. A photosensor is positioned exteriorly of the drum. The degree of attenuation as measured by the photosensor indicates the toner concentration within the developer mixture. When the toner concentration is beneath a predetermined level as indicated by the output signal from the photosensor, additional toner particles are discharged into the developer mixture.
