An uncomplicated, low~costsheet feeder gate is disclosed, which is easy to install on a sheet feeding mechanism and normally requires little, if any, maintenance.

As shown in the figure, the sheet separator device comprises a sheet metal leaf spring 11 positioned in contact with a feed belt 12. ~he l~,afspring 11 in the "at rest" position is located such that the angle & is 45 +/-5 .The leaf spring 11 is positioned such that it penetrates into the belt 12, and the force required to load

the spring 11 into the belt 12 is approximately 50 grams. This results in the belt 12 being displaced approximately 0,025 inch from its rest position. The spring 11 is fastened to mount 13 for positioning thereof. The leaf spring 11 was fabricated from thin sheet aluminum with a width of 1 inch. Tn operation, the feed belt 12

advances the paper 14, and the spring 11 penetrating the belt 12 allows only a single sheet to be fed through the sheet feeder gate. The device can feed various weights of paper and mixtures thereof, for example, 1311 paper mixed with 2011 paper.

This sheet feeder device provides a means of manufacturing an inexpensive gate
