Abstract

A nudger wheel for registering sheets delivered to a finisher is of angled semi-elliptical form so as to move the copy sheet in two directions. It consists of two semi-ellipses mounted in butterfly formation onto a rotating shaft RS. The included angle is 28. The semi-minor axis is of length b and the semi-major axis of length a. In order that the shaft axis remain horizontal during operation, the condition b = a Sin 8 needs to be satisfied. To provide the correct wipe locus, the axis of wheel rotation needs to be located at around 45 degrees (included angle) to either or both registration edges. If an intermittent sheet movement is required or alternatively to reduce registration times, it is acceptable to use one only rotating semi-ellipse. The outer perimeter of the device should be covered with a high friction material compatible with the sheet movement performance required.
