Abstract

An arrangement for transporting toner from the doctor blade 5 to the sump area of a xerographic copier wherein toner coming off the blade 5 is contained in a small volume while it is augered laterally to the sump area. The copier includes a rotatable xerographic drum 6 with cooperating seal roll 7 for removing leftover toner from the surface of drum 6.

Doctor blade 5 is mounted rigidly in a manner to minimize stack-ups of toner in the area between blade 5 and roll 7 in order to improve cleaning of seal roll 7. This is accomplished by mounting blade 5 directly on the auger housing 8. This arrangement also provides a positive seal to the auger enclosure 9 adjacent seal roll
7. Doctor blade 5 is oriented vertically to obtain the optimum effect of gravity pulling toner into the auger enclosure 9 with blade position retained by means of a clamp and springs.

As toner comes off or breaks away from the pile 10 of stagnant toner, auger 11 drives the toner laterally toward an exit in the end of the auger housing 8. In order to minimize toner clouding in the upper portion of auger housing 8 adjacent seal
