Abstract

The reaction of poly(viny1 chloroformate) with an aromatic compound containing an active hydrogen (e.g., amines and alcohols) yields a polymer having efficient charge transport characteristics for use in an electrophotographic plate. For example, poly(viny1 chloroformate) can be reacted with I-amino pyrene to yield ply-N-pyrenyl vinyl urethane. In place of the amino pyrene, 3-amino-9-ethyl carbazole can be employed to yield poly(N-[9-ethyl-3-carbazolyly) vinyl urethane).
