This disclosure relates to a manual book binding apparatus. The apparatus is adapted for insertion of a binding strip 2 having hot-melt adhesive thereon onto an electrically heated platen 4. Sheets 6 to be bound are inserted between guide members 8 into contact with the hot-melt adhesive. Cover sheets 10 may be placed on supports 12 after which lever 14 is pressed down to raise the platen 4 to force the cover sheets 10 and the sheets 6 onto the glue on the binding strip.

By releasing the lever the platen 4 will drop out of contact with the strip 2 which will rapidly cool. The bound book may then be slid forward out of the binding apparatus.
