Abstract

A moving platen P of a copier is driven directly off the photoreceptor drum shaft 1 through a cable drive. A 1:l recycling clutch 2 is employed which includes a pulley 3 having the same diameter as the drum and having connected to it the ends of cables 4 passing over end pulleys 5 from the platen P. The pulley 3 is freely rotatable on the drum shaft 1 and carries at one side an annular flange 6 having a recess or slot 6a at one circumferential position. Fixed against rotatior? relative to shaft 1 is a clutch member 7 having pivoted thereto a pawl 8 which rides on the flange 6. The pawl is biased into engagement with flange 6 so that rotation of the member 7 causes the pawl 8 to engage the slot in flange 6 to drive pulley 3 and thus the platen P. The clutch is disengaged by a stop 9 which lifts pawl 8 from slo; 6a at the end of the platen scanning movement (following a rotation of about 300 of the pulley 3). Rescan is effected by any suitable rescan drive 20 preferably as described below.
