Abstract

This invention relates to a method of making fuser rolls which comprises providing a metallic core having a roughened surface, depositing a stainless steel flame sprayed coating on the roughened surface, coating the stainless steel coating with a layer of a primer, and applying a layer of a fluoropolymer on the primer layer. The roughened surface on the metallir core may be provided by conventional means, such as grit blasting. The flame sprayed coating of stainless steel may be applied by known methods, such as a plasma flame spray process. The primer layer is then applied to the flame spray coating of stainless steel, and then a fluoropolymer such as Teflon, is applied over the primer layer to provide the release surface for the fuser roll.
