Abstract

Ink jet marking engines of existing types operate by direct impingement of the ink jet or jets upon the copy sheet. Such devices frequently are subject to unreliable operation because of paper handling complications. Disclosed is a method of improving the operating reliability of ink jet printers by providing a simplified paper path through the marking engine wherein transfer of the ink image is made to the paper from an intermediate roll upon which it was formed by impingement of the ink jet or jets.
