Abstract

Disclosed is a mechanical system for moving the lens mount in a xerographic copier duplicator to accomplish the optical scanning of a document. A motor 1 provides the drive means, communicating directly with double pulleys 2 and 3 by means of cables or belts. Lens carriage 4 carries idler pulleys 5 and 6. This configuration eliminates the need for a gear box and also provides sufficient speed reduction that the motor can run at its optimum rotational speed. An additional advantage is that the effective stiffness of the cable or belt material is increased by the multiple connections.
