Abstract

In the development of nonuniform charge patterns on an imaging member with polar or polarizable uncharged toner particles, it has been proposed to deliver the toner particles to the nonuniform charge pattern from a toner source by utilizing a movable development member having a multiplicity of convergent fields thereon for polarizing the toner and applying a force for holding the toner to the member.

In the development of nonuniform charge patterns on an imaging member with polar or polarizable uncharged toner particles, it has been proposed to deliver the toner particles to the nonuniform charge pattern from a toner source by utilizing a movable development member having a multiplicity of convergent fields thereon for polarizing the toner and applying a force for holding the toner to the member.

It is suggested herein, to avoid any competition for the toner particles between the fields present on the imaging member and on the development member, to remove the field forces on the development member in the area of the development zone defined by the convergence of the development member and the imaging member.

This can be accomplished by segmenting a screen into strips across a web or roller and making electrical contact to all segments except in the development zone.
