Abstract

Disclosed is a device for use in an electrophotographic imaging system for the purpose of automatically controlling the development process and indicating the useful life of the developer compositions employed in such devices. In Figure I, there is illustrated one form of the device having electrical input connections 1, 2, 3 and output connections 4, 5, 6. The input lines 1, 2, 3 are fed with signals from sensing devices which monitor selected areas of the photoreceptor present in the imaging system that have been imaged. The sensor supplying input line 1 is a bar code reader which responds to the density of the imaged lines. Sensors supplying input lines 2 and 3 respond respectively to timing information and the solid area background density. The output lines 4, 5, 6 produce signals which activate respectively the toner dispenser, a device to indicate developer failure to the operator and an increase of developer bias.
