Abstract

In designing software for the belt-type document handler portion of an electro-static-type copying machine, there are many functions which have to be performed after waiting for the document handler belt to travel a certain number of inches. For this purpose, reference holes are provided in the belt at every inch in order to enable the software to keep track of the position of the belt. Also, a sensor is provided to sense longer pitch or track marks on the document handler belt.

A "macro" permits application programs to schedule tasks to be done after a certain number of marks have passed, permitting these application programs to ignore most marks. For example, the application programs could lower the document feeder pinch rolls, then schedule a job with a label (i.e., CL @ PINCH) to raise the document feeder pinch rolls after a preset amount of document handler belt travel. Thereafter, exit or return can be made in the knowledge that the job will be done after the belt has traveled the required distance and independently of anything else that is required by the software.

In the example, the application code associated with the loading of a document requires only:

Feeder (ADF) Pinch Rolls

SATKTM (Set A-Track Variable Timer Schedule the Event to Open Timer) 2, 3, CLQ PINCH the Pinch Rolls...
