In the design of an automatic stapling device used in the finishing station of a xerographic copier/duplicator or other printing-publishing machine, it is necessary to facilitate the purging of staples from the device in the event of a staple jam or the need to change staple size.

Disclosed is a staple purging device in which a slider is first pivoted into alignment with the staple supply channel of the stapling head and then injected through the channel to clear it.
