Abstract

A recirculating document handling feature. When an operator approaches a copier with a stapled set of original documents to make copies, he/she first removes the staple from the original set, places the set in the document handler tray, programs the job and presses Print. At the end of the job the copy sheets are stapled but the original document stack is unstapled. The operator must now seek out a stapler to restaple the originals.

Proposed Classification

A recirculating document handling feature. When an operator approaches a copier with a stapled set of original documents to make copies, he/she first removes the staple from the original set, places the set in the document handler tray, programs the job and presses Print. At the end of the job the copy sheets are stapled but the original document stack is unstapled. The operator must now seek out a stapler to restaple the originals.

An electric stapler can be provided directly in the document tray of the document handler which would restaple the set upon a programmed command. For an N to I face-up document tray, the staple head could be located in the rear left- hand corner of the tray, and could articulate out of the paper path or open wide until the copy job is completed. The programmed command may be "Restaple Set", and may be initiated automatically by the programmable software of the copier controller when it completes the last document circulation. Alternatively, the stapler actuation may be by the operator pressing a button on the copier console.
