Abstract

This is a constant velocity coupling which uses a peg and slot to transmit torque. The location of the two parts after separation w F n opening the document handler is accomplished by a conical seating with a 20 The angle is chosen to prevent the two parts locking together while enabling the maximum torque to be transmitted without the taper being driven apart by the reaction of the peg in the slot. Tolerance to angular and lateral alignment errors while still providing constant velocity drive is possible due to the use of a metal bellows coupling. The metal bellows coupling is in slight compression and ensures good contact of the mating parts of the cone location arrangement.

The coupling may be used as the drive connection to a document handler of a photocopier where the document handler is hinged for access to the platen of copier. The drive shaft to the document handler can thus be split while ensuring the maintenance of the correct platen belt speed regardless of misalignments between the half-shafts.
