Abstract

An ink jet droplet generator 1 including an acoustic chamber 2 for squirting ink under pressure through a nozzle aperture 3 toward a printing medium. A typical Raleigh-type ink jet printer comprises a piezoelectric crystal driver 4 for pro-ducing pressure waves in the ink. These waves insure that ink droplets break off from the ink column 5 at a specific distance from the generator to form uniform sized ink droplets.

The driver 4 is integrally molded with a generator body 6. In fabrication, the drive 4 is inserted into a mold/die as a driver subassembly. Electrical leads 7 and connectors 8 * complete the subassembly which is then surrounded with a plastic body material. Burying the driver material 4 in the plastic body 6 protects the driver from corrosion by the ink in the cavity.
