Abstract

This disclosure relates to roll fusers adapted to fuse toner images on copy sheets. The roll fuser comprises a heated fuser roll and a pressure roll which is adapted for pressure engagement with the fuser roll. During inoperative periods the rolls are not engaged. When the roll structures are pressure engaged, the pressure roll is shifted in one direction due to its interaction with the fuser roll. An end play bias spring serves to bias one of the pressure roll's bearing assemblies so that the pressure roll is moved back to its original position. The spring is operative when the two rolls are disengaged.
