Abstract

This disclosure involves the use of a fastener mounted on a frame which allows the installation and removal from a frame, a printed wiring board (PWB) or other device. Figures 1 and 2 show a three-stage or three-position fastener. The first grommet has the capability of compressing together and snapping outward. Thus, in the first position (FIG. la), the fastener remains loose in the frame after insertion by hand for PWB alignment purposes. The second grommet has an actuating plunger protruding through it with a head design fashioned such that the PWB would be installed over it and the second grommet. The second position (FIG. lb) expands

the first grommet, thereby stabilizing the fastener in the frame after the PWB is installed over the second grommet and aligned. The third position (FIG. lc) of the plunger captivates the PWB to the fastener by expanding the second grommet and the fastener to the frame by expanding the first grommet. To release the PWB, the plunger is pulled out to The first or second position which releases the PWB and loosens the fastener in the frame.
