Abstract

This disclosure relates to controlling the temperature of a nip forming fuser roll. To this end, a dual setpoint is employed whereby the fuser surface temperature is controlled at a higher value during a standby mode than it is during a run mode. When the start print event occurs, the control point is automatically changed from the standby to run value after a predetermined waiting period. The dual setpoint strategy is desirably coupled with early camming of the fuser rolls into pressure engagement in order to rapidly establish fuser roll equilibrium prior to first copy arrival.
