Abstract

In order to positively hold and invert a document or a stack of articles, the mechanism illustrated in Figure 1 may be utilized. Gear A is the stationary gear, gear B is the idler gear, while gear C is the output gear. Crankshaft D rotates in bearing E. Idler B is mounted on crankshaft D. Gear C rotates on the end of crankshaft D. Also, gear C is fixed to connecting rod F at one end and document pick up device G at the other end.

Gear A is the stationary gear, gear B is the idler gear, while gear C is the output gear. Crankshaft D rotates in bearing E. Idler B is mounted on crankshaft D. Gear C rotates on the end of crankshaft D. Also, gear C is fixed to connecting rod F at one end and document pick up device G at the other end.

Gear A has twice the number of teeth that gear C has. The number of teeth on gear B will depend upon the length of the connecting rod F.

If length JK of crankshaft D is equal to the length KH of connecting rod F, then point H will move in a straight line when crank D is rotated. Also, pick up device G will rotate one revolution when crank D is rotated one revolution. Thus, pick up device G rotates as well as traverses in a straight line.

Figures 2a through 2ishow the movement of various components as crankshaft D is rotated through 180 . The document is picked up at station X and delivered at station Y in a flipped over condition.
