Abstract

This disclosure relates to a pin charging device 10 for depositing charges on a dielectric or a photoconductor. In order to control bare plate current or dielectric surface potential uniformity, the free end 12 of a side shield 14 of a pin shield 16 is pivoted away a predetermined amount, as illustrated in the figure, to thereby increase the pin to shield spacing. Such an arrangement has the effect of increasing the charge efficiency of pins 18 overall and broadening the charge distribution pattern in the x-direction.
