Abstract

In drop-on-demand ink jet ejectors, each ejector has its own electromechanical transducer. In order to provide images of acceptable resolution, ejector orifices are closely spaced. Where a large number of ejectors are provided in an array, it is necessary, because of their size, to provide the transducers at some distance from the orifices. For operational reasons, it is desirable to have the ink channel joining each transducer to its orifice be of the same length. This can be done by providing, e.g., a flexible monofilament line of equal length running from each transducer to its orifice. The line will bend more for the "closer in" transducers than for those further away. The transducer, lines and orifices are then encapsulated with a material that becomes the ejector body. The lines are then removed leaving an equal length ink channel for all transducer-orifice pairs. To make removal of the lines easier, collapsible tubes can be used in place of the lines.
