Abstract

Referring to the drawing, in one conventional folder/nester, the sheet to be folded (i.e., sheet 1) is fed from supply tray 16 by sheet feeder 8 into a first fold plate 5. As the sheet advances, the lead edge of the sheet trips a switch 6 which is positioned a predetermined distance upstream from the sheet stop 7 in fold plate 5. As will appear, stop 7 later causes the sheet to buckle and fold. Switch 6 interrupts operation of sheet feeder 8 to stop the feed of sheet 1 and starts the sheet feeder 9 for the sheets 2 in supply tray 15. As a sheet 2 is fed forward, the sheet lead edge trips a switch 10 positioned a predetermined distance from a first set of fold rollers 12. Actuation of switch 10 starts sheet feeder 8 to restart feeding of the partially fed sheet 1. When the lead edge of sheet I strikes stop 7 in the fold plate 5, sheet 1 buckles. Concurrently, the lead edge of sheet 2 reaches the buckle in sheet 1 and thereafter the two sheets continue through the folderhester as a pair. A second fold plate 14 serves to wrap the remainder of sheet I around sheet 2.
