Abstract

A tri-roll paper inverter includes a constant force spring in back of the inverter chute. An entering sheet, of any size, contacts the lightweight spring backing and thereby compresses the spring. This provides a constant return force enabling the trail edge of the sheet to maintain contact with the center roll of the inverter and to "walk around" to the output nip and exit. The constant force spring, properly chosen, will allow this inverter to handle most commercial paper sizes and base weights. This type of inverter lends itself to many geometrical configurations.
