Abstract

I As shown in the drawing, the corona generating device comprises a coronode wire 10 having a glass coating 12 thereon. When wire 10 is electrically excited by high voltage power supply, it acts as an electrode generating ions. Wire 10 is mounted

vacuum system. Baffles 18 are mounted on spacers 20. Spacers 20 are positioned intermittently along the length of housing 14 to allow ambient air to be ducted through ports 22 to coronode wire 10. Air flows in the direction of arrows 24. The new ducting arrangement reverses the airflow in the vicinity of the biased shield and wire, reducing contaminant deposition on the shield, extending the cleaning interval, as well as, reducing the probability of conductive contaminants arcing from wire to shield, causing glass breakage and dicorotron failure. If there is excessive dirt in the printing machine environment, replaceable filters may be utilized in lieu of spacers 20. These filters would collect and trap the dirt in the air flowing through the corona generating device.
