Abstract

A paper feeder is described that consists of a shaft 1 with a pair of paddles 2. The shaft axis is directly above the middle of the stack and parallel to the direction of paper feeder. The paddles have an elliptical shape and are mounted off-center and angled slightly to the lead edge of the paper.

A paper feeder is described that consists of a shaft 1 with a pair of paddles 2. The shaft axis is directly above the middle of the stack and parallel to the direction of paper feeder. The paddles have an elliptical shape and are mounted off-center and angled slightly to the lead edge of the paper.

The shaft is rotated back and forth. As the first paddle engages the paper, it nudges the top sheet ahead slightly and toward the side guide. The shaft rotation is then reversed and the other paddle engages the top sheet, nudging it again ahead and toward the other side guide. This zig-zag movement of the top sheet helps in the separation process but also mandates the use of side guides 3 with some small clearance between the stack and the guides.
