Abstract

The replenishment of toner to a toner hopper is desired to be as clean and free of dirt as possible. The toner cartridge and dispenser described approaches such a white glove operation. As seen with reference to Figure 1, the toner hopper I0 with dispensing foam roll 12 at the bottom includes a-toner cartridge 14 pivotally mounted to one side of the toner hopper by snap in pivot hinge members 18, 20. During manufacture, a new toner filled cartridge is provided with a slide 22 such as shown in Figure 2 (bottom view of cartridge) to cover the cartridge aperture when in the slide closed position. A tape seal 24 over the slide is provided. Once the tape seal is removed the toner cartridge is loaded into the pivot hinge side of the hopper and pivoted to the closed or home position where the cartridge is snap loaded into position with snap member locks 26, 28. In this closed position the pull slide lock 32 is automatically released when the lock interferes with the hopper housing and the slide 32 is pulled from the closed position to the open position as may be seen from Figure 3 (side view of cartridge) to allow toner to enter the cartridge. The cartridge may be opened to check toner level and removed and replaced with a full toner cartridge when toner replacement is desired. The used cartridge may be reloaded with toner or discarded as desired.
