Abstract

The stacker consists of an elevator-mounted output stacker platform 1, a retract-able auxiliary stacker base plate 2, and an output set offset nudger wheel assembly 3. The introduction of the retractable auxiliary stacker base plate 2 to intercept the flow of output copy sets allows for unloading of the stacker platform 1 without interruption of machine operation.

Raising the elevator platform 1 so as to contact the stacker back platform 2 will cause the latter to be retracted and the output sheets to be transferred intact onto the platform. Automatically lowering the platform allows a buildup of the stack of output sets to capacity. When 1 has reached the adjustable/desired height, the base plate 2 is reintroduced to intercept the flow of output copies and the platform 1 is further lowered to facilitate removal of the stack of output sets. A signal can be provided to notify the operator regarding the above events. The platform automatically returns to the raised position upon loading and the process is repeated.
