The figures illustrate a dual action dual gate registration system that may, for example, be used in an office copier. It consists of three inseparable assemblies which snap mount into each other with one assembly being snap mounted into a base frame member. The mechanism requires two actuation mechanisms to facilitate the actuation of the preregistration and registration gates independently.

The registration gate assembly consists of a metal shaft 10 with outsert molded plastic levers which form the registration gate edges 12 and a pair of snap on prong levers 14 to receive a pressure roll assembly 16 which are mounted on either side of the metal shaft like a seesaw. The registration gate assembly also carries a push lever 18 and return spring 20 outsert molded onto the shaft 10.

The registration gate assembly snap mounts into the base frame with the return spring 20 resting on a pad formed into the base frame member and is capable of pivoting freely in the snap mounts of the frame, when the actuating lever is depressed against the return spring lever 18. The registration gate assembly being stably secured into the frame is capable of receiving the preregistration gate assembly and the pressure roll assembly to form the dual gate registration system. A fixed stop is present in the bottom frame rib to allow the positioning of the registration gate and the actuation lever in known orientation when the paper path is opened. The registration roll 34 is fixedly mounted in a frame and is located close to preregistration gate 24.

The preregistration gate assembly edge 24 is made of a plastic molded piece with a plastic cantilever leg spring 26 and an actuation lever 28 in addition to the preregistration gate edge 24. The assembly is designed with snap on prongs 30 that can be snap mounted onto the registration gate's metal pivot shaft 16 after the registration gate assembly has been firmly snap mounted into the base frame. The preregistration gate pivots against the registration gate's metal shaft when actuated by depressing the actuating lever 28. The cantilever spring rests on a pad formed in the base frame.
