Abstract

As shown in the figure, a laser scanning system 19 having a laser 20, a modulator 22, and an exposure system 12 is used in conjunction with an electrophotographic color copier 10 such that either the platen 42, laser 20 or both can be utilized on the same copier. The laser is mounted to the copier such that the platen could be utilized with or without the laser scanning system. This permits additive scanning and annotating of the image produced from document 40 on the platen 42. The annotating can be produced in regions on the photoreceptor 38 where no ima-ing takes place by use of a computer 24. The laser scanning system 19 can also be used on the same copier for digital printing and the platen 42 can be used for conventional printing. This device permits both the digital and conventional printing schemes to be available for providing improved image quality in pictorials especially with the post image screening capability of this configuration.
