To reduce first copy output time in a xerographic copier or reproduction machine of the type having a platen on which document originals to be copied are placed together. with a cover for closing off the platen during the copying process, 2

control is provided which responds to raising of the platen cover to cycle up the copier components such as the main drive motor, xerographic power supplies, erase lamps, and the like in anticipation of copying. As a result, the copier is ready to operate immediately upon subsequent actuation of the START button by the customer.

The platen cover may comprise a relatively simple manual cover or the platen covering portion of an automatic document feeder or handler.
