Abstract

An ink jet head 10 having a single nozzle 12 is attached to a movable, endless belt 14 as shown in Figure 1. The belt is mounted on rotatable roller 16 and driven roller 18. The driven roller is rotated at a constant speed in the direction of arrow 20 by any well-known means (not shown). The axes of rollers 16 and 18 are parallel with each other and perpendicular to a web paper 22. The lengths of belt 14 between the rollers 16 and 18 are at an angle 8 with a line 24 which is perpendicular to the direction of movement of the paper.

An ink jet head 10 having a single nozzle 12 is attached to a movable, endless belt 14 as shown in Figure 1. The belt is mounted on rotatable roller 16 and driven roller 18. The driven roller is rotated at a constant speed in the direction of arrow 20 by any well-known means (not shown). The axes of rollers 16 and 18 are parallel with each other and perpendicular to a web paper 22. The lengths of belt 14 between the rollers 16 and 18 are at an angle 8 with a line 24 which is perpendicular to the direction of movement of the paper.

The ink jet head 10 may be either the continuous stream type or the drop-on- demand type, but for simplicity, is depicted here as a drop-on-demand type. Umbilical cord 26 carries the ink and the power to the head. Thus, as the paper moves in the direction of arrow 28, the ink jet head moves with the belt 14 in the direction of arrow 30. Since the ink jet head moves at angle 8 with the moving paper, it can write all the way across the paper while it is moving and if the velocity of the paper is adjusted to have the appropriate relationship with the velocity of the ink jet head, each printed line will be perpendicular to the paper movem...
